CARREFOUR Ningbo Beilun Store - 家乐福宁波北仑店
Carrefour Ningbo Beilun Store known as 家乐福宁波北仑店 (Jiālèfú Níngbō Běilún Diàn) is a hypermarket located at the crossing of Changjiang road and Huangshan road almost opposite to the Beilun City Hall.
Opened on 2008 Dec. 31, Carrefour Beilun is a 2 storeys hypermarket established in the shopping area called Fubang Century Commercial Plaza. On the second floor (entrance) we can first find electric appliances, clothes, kitchenware, toys, stationery and more. On the third floor (checkout) are the cosmetics, a wide food section (including fresh vegetables and fruits), drinks and imported food.
There is currently no parking lot available but customers can park their vehicle in an underground car parking located about 100 meters from the supermarket’s entrance.

Carrefour company was created in France in 1959 by 2 families (Fournier and Defforey). They opened their first supermarket in Annecy (France) in 1960. Marcel Fournier named the business Carrefour, or ‘crossroads’, in reference to its position at the confluence of five roads.
In 1963 another supermarket was opened in Cran-Gevrier, in the Annecy region, this time with a vast car park. But the Carrefour story really started when in June 1963 a 3rd store opened 30km south of Paris and was referred to in the press as a “hypermarket”, reflecting its 2,500-sqm size, 400 parking spaces and abundance of food and non-food merchandise. The denomination “hypermarket” stands for a supermarket combined with a department store.
Later, in 1969, Carrefour opened its first hypermarket outside France, in Belgium. From then on, it continued to expand across the globe. Carrefour hypermarket made its first appearance in Asia, in Taiwan, in 1989.
It continued to grow in Asia, adding Singapore to its list in 1997. In 1998 Carrefour company purchases Comptoirs Modernes SA and in 2000 merges with Promodès SA to become Europe’s largest retailer.
Today Carrefour is the world’s second-largest retailer and the group operates in 32 countries and has over 9,500 stores, either company-operated or franchises, including about 1450 hypermarkets. (Dec. 2011)
In China, Carrefour opened its 200th store on Dec. 1st 2011 in the city of Changzhou, Jiangsu province.

Although the Carrefour concept is similar all over the world, there are several features making a significant differences between one store and another. Of course location, size and range of products are the main criteria but staff training and managerial supervision also play an important role.Do not expect much on this part from Carrefour Beilun store. Yes you can find a rather wide range of products, yes you can benefit of discounted prices but that’s about it.
No greeting/smile from any staff/cashiers, hard to find any help from staff who seldom knows where is what, check-out is not convenient without conveyor belt and no space to park cars next to the store. There is still an underground car park about 100 meters away, but not a convenient option if you want to quickly drop there for a few things, and definitely too far when you have heavy bags to carry (shopping carts cannot be taken outside the store). Beware that parking in the streets around is forbidden and might cost you a 150y fine (!).

To conclude on a positive note, Carrefour Beilun store has a slightly wider range of imported products compare to other supermarkets in Beilun, including for example the famous Evian mineral water. 虽然家乐福作为品牌是全球通用的，但是不同门店之间还是可以找到显著的差异。当然，门店选址、规模和产品范围是主要的标准，但针对工作人员的培训管理和监督也在我们的评判中发挥了重要作用。在这一点上，不要对家乐福北仑店有过高期望。是的，你在这儿可以找到相当广泛的产品，您也可以从优惠的价格中受益，但仅此而已。
你无法得到任何收银员、服务员的微笑和问候。你很难得到任何工作人员的帮助，确切的说他们也不知道商品在哪儿。收银处没有商品传送带，为顾客带来很大不便。超市没有就近可以停车的位置。附近的地下停车场需要走超过100米的路程（而且推车不能过去），所以想快去快回是不太可能的。要是你有大件商品，去停车场会是一个沉重的负担。千万别在街边停车，那可能会花费你一百五十块的违章停车罚款!
