A FEW WORDS ABOUT NINGBO CLIMATE AND TEMPERATURE:
The city of Ningbo in Zhejiang province has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons:
- In SPRING, weather is quite changeable and rain showers can quickly alternate with sunshine. May and June is the rainy season that announces summer is coming. Beginning of July temperature might rise up very quickly and days start to be very hot without any rain. July and August are the hottest months of the year with a “penetrating” heat due to a rather high humidity level.
- SUMMER is there with temperatures that can easily reach up 38 ºC and even higher! You will for sure enjoy the fact that many places in Ningbo (taxis, buses, restaurants, hotels) all have air conditioning systems. This high temperature will last until mid-September and then gradually drop down.
- AUTUMN is probably the greatest period with dry, warm and sunny days starting by the end of September and lasting until the end of November. Even the first half of December might not be very cold.
- WINTER is short and it seldom snows but humidity can emphasize the sensation of cold. Temperatures can be quite cold by the end of December and in January (under 0º C / 32 ºF). From mid-February temperatures start raising up a little until the beginning of April when days become significantly warmer.
If you are planning to VISIT Ningbo, October and November as well as April and first half of May are probably the best periods as weather should be warm without reaching July and August summer peaks.
However, if you come in summer and visit scenic spots, ensure your child has plenty of drinks, a sun hat and don’t forget to apply sun protection cream.
You will see that local people protect their skins wearing long sleeves and using an umbrella to hide from the strong sunrays. Hopefully as we said above, almost every public place as well as restaurants, hotels, etc, have air conditioners and sometimes ceiling fans.
