2007-10-02 - REPORT : Beilun Ocean Pub Quiz-Night - 2nd Edition

The event was organized by Matthew D. and sponsored by :
- HelloNingbo that gave 12 digital clocks + 1 bottle of Caledonian Prince whisky...
- Ocean Pub that gave a T-Shirt to everyone. That means a few dozens !

We had a great crowd at Quiz Night II, even more than the first quiz last month.
Our competitors came from all walks of life -- business people, teachers, students, tourists, and everyone else in between.
The competition was very fierce and in the end there were only a few points separating the first and last place teams.

These guys seem very happy, don't they ? But what's going on ?


Oh I see they're all gathering for the Ocean Pub Quiz 2nd Edition. Not 8PM yet...


Thank you Miss Ocean as you prepared food for all the players and offered again a free barbecue...


Look at these two, it seems that they're already having a good time...Cheers guys !


Each team did very well and each had its own strengths.
For example, "The Bathroom Watchers" were the only team to correctly identify "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!" as line from the film Dirty Dancing.

If you want to practice Chinese, you can talk with Serkan, "dui ma ?"

The team who called themselves "Sally" were the only ones who knew that the "koala" is the non-primate animal with fingerprints very similar to humans.

Patrick from HelloNingbo liked the T-shirts offered by Ocean, the Owner-Manager from the pub


The cleverly titled "Not Group 4" (who were actually Group 2) were the only team to know that a group of crows is called a "murder".

Matt is the official Quiz-Master and organized the whole event.
He took great care searching interesting questions in multiple fields. WELL DONE MATT !


And finally, the team that came first place -- and won the bottle of whisky, the clocks, the money, and the all the glory -- were "Beilun Beauty and the Beasts".

How do I look like with this new T-Shirt ? Well after a look in the mirror, it looks definitely nice ! Can I keep it ?


The winning team were the only ones identified the "Stanley Cup" as the oldest trophy that can be won by professional athletes in North America.



In fact, the difference between the first place team and the second place team was only one single point!
It was a very tight race! Everyone did very well overall.



Among the many questions every team got correct were :
What African country is Nairobi the capital of ?
What novel's opening line is "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." ?
What tennis cup began as a challenge between the United States and Great Britain in 1900 ?

Aren't they cute these 2 young Ocean Pub Team Members ?

and also :
Who recently received a Nobel Peace prize to go along with his Oscar and Emmy ?
What are the two longest rivers in China ?



The only questions that NO ONE got were these three :

What is the capital of Israel ? (will you also answer Tel Aviv ?)
What year did man last walk on the moon ?
What movie contains the line, "Round up the usual suspects" ?

OK here we have Roxanne in the middle and Win on the right but need help for the others...Bad memory is terrible
