Default 2007-09-19 - NEWS : Typhoon Wipha is forecasted to strike Ningbo

According to Reuters AlertNet and Wunderground website, Typhoon Wipha is forecasted to strike China between the port cities of Ningbo and Wenzhou on Wednesday the 19th of September around midday.

It's mainly the port with all the containers that might be a dangerous area but people working there are trained for these situations. If you drive, it might be better to avoid this specific period as the visibility might be seriously reduced for a few hours...Flights during this period could also be delayed. And if you had planned a nice walk for Wednesday afternoon then you'd better watch a DVD at home

Thanks to Debbie Dean for her email informing us.

The links we put on, show today that Wipha shouldn't be that strong.
It might simply be a tropical storm with heavy rain and strong wind gusts for a few hours.
Sorry Volcano, it might not be that impressive but should be better for everyone...

Today Tuesday I had no choice but to drive back home at 11:30 and it was raining like hell.
The thing is that the visibility was quite reduced and as the rain was heavy and sudden it provoked huge puddles here and there on the road. This is dangerous as it provokes aquaplaning and the car can be difficult to control. So better to avoid driving in such conditions.

Now at 12:30 I read different articles and some of them now say that Wipha might get stronger while reaching the Zhejiang coast.
So it shows that this kind of phenomenon is difficult to figure out and no one can really be sure of the exact intensity of Wipha...

Anyway, better stay tomorrow in the office or at home...

Hallo. Kathleen, please, where I can get the info about the closing of the schools? Maybe only Beilun schools will close and not the schools in Ningbo? Is that possible? Thank you!

As we can see on the maps, we were quite lucky as Wipha went finally much further inside Zhejiang almost getting around Ningbo.

Here in Beilun we had strong wind but that's about all. Not the same in places near Whenzhou where quite a few houses have been knocked down and electricity disrupted in villages...
